Harding Huebner is an architecture firm that believes at its core that well designed and carefully crafted architecture has the capacity to elevate the lives of those it serves, create greater awareness and pay homage to the world it’s integrally a part of, and leave a lasting legacy to the efforts of all the crafts people involved in bringing it to fruition.  

We believe that design is a process and most appreciated when it is embraced in that context.  We value close interactions and engagement with our clients to ultimately inform the final solution; one that seeks to coalesce all their functional needs and greatest desires into a cohesive, unified design that exceeds their expectations.  Our hope is that the final design has a sense of “inevitability” and that it was the process itself that revealed what was most fitting for the client, the land and the circumstance.

We believe every project we engage, large or small, has this capacity and potential and we are a committed collaborator with the client and design team to bring all we can to every solution.  Our role is a balance of listening intently, close observation, thoughtful reflection, distillation and curation of the strongest ideas to ultimately craft the creative design response that seeks to bring all the various and often competing goals into a unified solution.   

We believe that the best solutions, while not simple to achieve, have a feeling of simplicity.  That simplicity is rarely achieved accidentally and it requires energy and commitment from everyone involved.  This starts with the earliest design discussions with the client, through all the process of design iteration and work with consultants and collaborators, and ultimately realized in the gifted hands of the crafts people we value deeply and work closely with throughout construction.  

We greatly value the builders, artisans and craftspeople we are fortunate to work with and have forged close relationships over the many years.  These relationships have been built on mutual respect and we believe the most successful projects are the direct result of that collaborative work throughout the complete design and build process.  

We believe that the most sustainable building is the building that no one desires to replace, that they love to live and exist in, want to keep forever, and that elevates their daily experience of being alive and connected to the beautiful world around us.  

We believe that the process of design starts with the land. Whether urban or rural, flat plains or steeply sloping topography, each site has something unique to teach us.  The design must be in response to those lessons and act in harmony with its surroundings.  

We believe the goal of architecture is to be an inspiring vessel in which to live life, not distract from or suppress it.  Architecture plays a fundamental and often subconscious role in shaping how we see, perceive and relate to the our world.  It has the opportunity to provide the refuge for safety and comfort, elevate the mind, enhance our awareness of our surroundings, foster lasting relationships and memories, while also restoring and bringing grace to our bodies and spirit.
